Suede leather is the underside of the hide, sanded to create a soft and supple finish. It is sourced from farms in Rio Grande do Sul and tanned in Brazil without the use of harmful or prohibited chemicals. VEJA uses dyes that comply with regulations and ensures low water usage during the tanning process. The suede is then coated with PFC-free (perfluorinated compounds) water-repellent oils to protect the shoes from light rain.

It is mechanically treated for a smoother, softer finish and then tanned in Brazil using fewer dyes than conventional leather. VEJA uses dyes that comply with regulations and ensures minimal water usage during the tanning process.
