ZIMMERMANN

Sisters Nicky and Simone ZIMMERMANN founded their eponymous label in Sydney in 1991. ZIMMERMANN began with Nicky designing dresses and selling them at the Paddington markets. The markets gave Nicky the opportunity to hone her aesthetic and see first-hand how women responded to fashion. “While I was working at the markets, I got a two-page editorial in Australian Vogue. It was a momentous moment because suddenly I started getting orders from stores all over Australia and I could feel something was happening. Shortly after, I opened a small store in Darlinghurst.” While swimwear brought ZIMMERMANN international attention, it is the upbeat, feminine and consistently sought-after ready-to-wear and resort collections that have given the brand an increasingly strong global appeal.
