Slim Aarons: Poolside
Like its predecessors, “Once Upon a Time” and “A Place in the Sun”, “Poolside with Slim Aarons” offers images of jet-setters and the wealthy, of beautiful, glittering people living the glamorous life. Yet this new collection of stunning photographs of the rich and well-connected ‘doing attractive things’ in their favourite playgrounds has a new twist. The main character is pools and everything that goes with them – magnificent, suntanned bodies, well-oiled skin, bikini-clad women, yachts, summer cocktails, sumptuous buffets, spectacular locations and most of all fun. “Poolside with Slim Aarons” is not so much a Who’s Who of society, aristocracy and celebrity – although C. Z. Guest, Lily Pulitzer, Cheryl Tiegs, Peter Beard and many who have appeared in the previous books are here – as it is about leisure time and how the rich make use of it. This is a more intimate peek into very private lives, to which Slim Aarons was given unprecedented access in the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties. From the Caribbean to Italy and Mexico to Monaco, “Poolside with Slim Aarons” whisks the reader away to an exclusive club where taste, style, luxury and grandeur prevail.

The Book of Palms XL
On December 15, 1868, Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius (1794–1868), Professor of Botany at the University of Munich and director of the Royal Botanic Garden, was carried to his grave in a coffin covered with fresh palm leaves. These were a reference to his groundbreaking Historia naturalis palmarum: opus tripartitum (Natural History of Palms: a work in three volumes), published between 1823 and 1853. At the time, this encyclopedic treasury contained the sum of human knowledge on the topic, and included 240 exquisite chromolithographic illustrations, including landscape views of palm habitats and botanical dissections.
In his epic work, von Martius outlined the modern classification of palm, produced the first maps of palm biogeography, described all the palms of Brazil, and collated the sum of all known genera of the palm family. Apart from his own collection of specimens and notes, von Martius also wrote about the findings of others. Von Martius’s folio is unusual in its inclusion of cross-sectioned diagrams, conveying the architecture of these mighty trees, which central Europeans would have found hard to imagine accurately. Equally remarkable are the color landscapes showing various palms—often standing alone—which have a simple and elegant beauty. This famous work is an unrivaled landmark in botanic illustration and taxonomy.

Los Angeles: Portrait of a City
La La Land
A pictorial history of the City of Angels
From the first known photograph taken in Los Angeles to its most recent sweeping vistas, this photographic tribute to the City of Angels provides a fascinating journey through the city’s cultural, political, industrial, and sociological history. It traces the city’s development from the 1880s real estate boom, through the early days of Hollywood and the urban sprawl of the late 20th century, right up to the present day. With over 500 images, L.A. is shown emerging from a desert wasteland to become a vast palm-studded urban metropolis.
Events that made world news—including two Olympics, Bobby Kennedy’s assassination, and the Rodney King riots—reveal a city of many dimensions. The entertainment capital of the world, Hollywood, and its celebrities are showcased along with many other notable residents, personalities, architects, artists, and musicians. The city’s pop cultural movements, its music, surfing, health food fads, gangs, and hot rods are included, as are its notorious crimes and criminals. This book depicts Los Angeles in all its glory and grit, via hundreds of freshly discovered images including those of Julius Shulman, Garry Winogrand, William Claxton and many other superb photographers, culled from major historical archives, museums, private collectors, and universities. These are given context and resonance through essays by renowned California historian Kevin Starr and Los Angeles literature expert David L. Ulin.

Tuscany Marvel
The Italian region of Tuscany is a feast for all senses. A creative incubator that has cultivated art and architecture for eras including Etruscan, Roman, Renaissance and modern times. Timeworn churches, once stops on nineteenth-century Grand Tours, stand tall in the towns’ piazzas. Rolling hills of wheat and colorful olive groves, that inspire authentic Tuscan cuisine, are dotted with villas built by the prestigious Medici family. The Tyrrhenian Sea extends off its coast, lapping the shore of Elba, the island where the emperor Napoleon was exiled. Quaint villages, historic towns and bustling cities are scattered across its landscape, which is almost as varied as the communities themselves. From annual horse races at Piazza del Campo, and the centuries-old winemaking traditions of the Chianti region to the city of Pisa, an ancient Maritime Republic known for the youthful spirit of its Scuola Normale Superiore and Leaning Tower alike, Tuscany is the place of dreams, where thousands come to relive its history and take in the beauty of a region.
In the fashion world, Ferragamo, Gucci and Pucci all have ties to Florence and its endless inspiration. However, what truly defines Tuscany is its timelessness. Masterpieces from centuries past still lure immense crowds. Brunelleschi’s dome in Florence never fails to strike onlookers with awe.

Porsche 904
The 904, full name Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, was in many ways a special model for Porsche. Due to the unique design of Ferdinand Porsche, the sports car is affectionately called “Butzi’s masterpiece” and is still considered by many to be one of the most beautiful road racing cars. In a record-breaking development period of six months, the Porsche 904 was implemented in 1963. But not only that made this car a model in terms of innovation. For homologation (the approval process) as a race car, about 100 units of the Porsche 904 were registered as road vehicles and sold to private customers. The demand was so great that the car soon became a highly exclusive rarity. The distinctive look that characterises the Porsche design and the combination of technical innovations and low production costs did the rest to give the Porsche 904 a cult status that continues today. With text by Jürgen Lewandowski and photos by Stefan Bogner, two proven Porsche connoisseurs.

Jamie Hewlett
This special edition updates Jamie Hewlett’s first-ever monograph with around 30 brand new pieces. Through stories, characters, strips, and sketches from the Tank Girl era through Gorillaz and up to the present day, we trace Hewlett’s exceptional capacity for invention and celebrate a polymath artist who refuses to rest on his laurels.
From the legendary Tank Girl to live-action animations with Gorillaz, a Chinese contemporary opera to an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, artist Jamie Hewlett is one of the most energetic figures of contemporary pop culture.
With influences ranging from hip hop to zombie slasher movies, Hewlett emerged in the mid-1990s as co-creator of the zeitgeist-defining Tank Girl comic. With then-roommate Damon Albarn, he went on to create the groundbreaking cartoon band Gorillaz. The award-winning virtual pop group of animated characters is a truly global phenomenon. Gorillaz have topped charts around the world, toured the globe from San Diego to Syria, and picked up hundreds of millions of streams and record sales along the way.
Since then, Hewlett has continued to collaborate with Albarn on projects including an elaborate staging of the Chinese novel Monkey: Journey to the West by Wu Cheng’en, complete with circus acrobats, Shaolin monks, and Chinese singers. In 2006, he was named Designer of the Year by the Design Museum in London, and in 2009, Hewlett and Albarn won a BAFTA for their animated Monkey sequence for the Beijing Olympic Games. In 2015 The Suggestionists, an exhibition of prints at the Saatchi Gallery in London, demonstrated an exciting new direction in Hewlett’s practice.
This special edition celebrating TASCHEN’s 40th anniversary updates Hewlett’s first major monograph with around 30 brand new pieces. The book illustrates his thrilling creative journey with more than 400 artworks from the Tank Girl era through Gorillaz and up to the present day. Through stories, characters, strips, and sketches, we trace Hewlett’s exceptional capacity for invention and celebrate a polymath artist who refuses to rest on his laurels, or to be pigeonholed into a particular practice.

Dazed: 30 Years, Confused: The Covers
In 1991, the first issue of Dazed \x26 Confused was released as a single A2 foldout newsprint by a then 20\-year\-old Jefferson Hack and the photographer Rankin. Now, 30 years later, what began as a print magazine has gone on to provoke a change in consciousness, becoming a vital cultural manifesto for today. Created for an audience that wants to be both informed and inspired to imagine, its radical approach to publishing means that Dazed is still at the forefront of youth culture today. Split into ten chapters taken from the magazine s most memorable cover lines this book explores how these early manifestos reflect the magazine s ethos today. Time\-traveling from the 90s to now, a new generation of image makers sit side by side with archival materials to showcase how Dazed has always interpreted celebrity through its own boundary\-pushing lens: from Alexander McQueen and David Bowie s first official, recorded conversation and the designer s Fashion\-Able? cover, to a rare appearance and guest\-edit by Chelsea Manning, to rapper Young Thug shot by Harley Weir.

Great Escapes USA
The USA is one of the most varied and fascinating countries in the world. Its areas of natural beauty such as the Pacific Coast, the Yosemite National Park, and Monument Valley are the stuff of great cinema (Hollywood finds its best settings practically in its backyard). For everyone who explores the USA beyond its big cities on a classic road trip, on the trail of Native Americans and pioneers, in the mountains or by lakes and beaches, unforgettable moments are guaranteed.
In Great Escapes USA, Angelika Taschen presents remarkable places to stay through impressive photography, entertaining texts, and practical details on how to get there, prices, and tips for books and films. Her journey starts on the East Coast, where intellectuals and artists once met in idyllically located country houses such as the Twin Farms in Vermont and Troutbeck in New York State. It continues to the South, where The Moorings Village and Hôtel Peter & Paul, for example, tell of the history of Florida and Louisiana, and Southern belles such as the Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, Texas reveal their glamor.
Dunton Hot Springs, once a miners’ camp in Colorado, now transformed from a ghost town to an upscale rustic resort, lies on the route, just like the urban utopia that is Arcosanti in Arizona, conceived by the architect Paolo Soleri in the 1970s. The trip comes to a wonderful conclusion in California with unique hotels such as Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn, where many famous writers have stayed in the Norwegian-influenced wooden cabins, laid-back motels like The Surfrider Malibu, which is all about the California dream, and heavenly destinations for gourmets, for example SingleThread in Sonoma County with its three Michelin stars.
The photography in this opulent publication presents hotels in the tradition of great architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright as well as the work of young contemporary designers and buildings in the typical American mid-century style. A horse ranch, a glamping site, even a hippie bathhouse and vintage mobile homes are also included – places as varied as the USA itself!
From the Napa Valley to the Hudson Valley, from the Wild West to the South, from the mountains of New Mexico to the coast of Maine: a journey across the USA will take you to legendary landscapes with all kinds of wonderful accommodations. Angelika Taschen presents her favorite destinations: beach houses and desert camps, motels and ranches, mobile homes and tents, resorts, and inns.

Hamptons Private
“The Hamptons” is synonymous with luxury. Simply mentioning the name conjures images of poolside soirées, grandiose waterfront estates and endless days on the beach socializing with the upper echelon. But before this famed peninsula became the summer haunt of the glitterati, its forty miles of rolling sand dunes provided the perfect landscape for English settlers. Once New York high society caught wind of the charming hamlets and salty air, its members—from the Fords to the Vanderbilts—soon turned The Hamptons into a summer oasis. Next came the creatives seeking solitude, a place to write and sketch, away from the urban cacophony. John Steinbeck in Sag Harbor. Jackson Pollock in the Springs. And Andy Warhol in Montauk. Now, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Calvin Klein, Madonna, Alec Baldwin and Martha Stewart all enjoy Hamptons homes. They may come from different realms, but what’s one thing all Hamptonites, honorary or official, can agree on? The locale boasts a unique allure—one that morphs to meet the desires of its next seasonal guest or lifelong dweller.
Hamptons Private invites readers to peek behind the manicured hedges in Amagansett, charter a yacht off the shore of the Springs, experience the surfer’s haven that is Ditch Plains and attend a polo match in Bridgehampton. Each page envisions the quintessential leisure of The Hamptons and showcases the unique quality of light that artist Willem de Kooning dubbed a “miracle.” One can almost hear the thwock of tennis balls at The Meadow Club, the whisperings of exclusive parties, the rhythms of seaside music at The Surf Lodge—even the first bite of a lobster roll at Lunch. The Hamptons, at once a retreat to nature and a hot spot for A-listers, exudes a boho-chic spirit reflected in its beautiful people and sublime surroundings.

LOST IN - Amsterdam
The Dutch Masters have given way to a new generation of innovative and inspired artists and designers. Today, Amsterdam offers treats like pop-up restaurants on abandoned islands, fine food in 300-year-old greenhouses… Despite its rich history, the city is constantly transforming. In Amsterdam, Lost in spoke to a creator who’s shaped the pavestones of the city, a celebrated chef, a global doyen of denim and a family of artists. A feature excavates contemporary Dutch architecture, while a local profile takes you to the hot new neighbourhood across the bay.

St. Tropez Soleil
The legend of St. Tropez starts with a dog, a rooster, and a martyr; and it leads to movie stars, world-renowned artists and distinguished writers. Located on the sparkling French Riviera, St. Tropez has enjoyed the spotlight for more than half a century, for better or worse, with celebrities flocking to this idyllic locale for its beaches and a dose of Mediterranean sun. A picturesque oasis, St. Tropez has served as inspiration for a who’s who of notable writers from Françoise Sagan to Colette; as well as renowned artists Paul Signac and Henri Matisse; and even filmmakers. However, St. Tropez would not be the same without then belle du jour Brigitte Bardot, her films and lovers and many other famous couples including Annabel and Bernard Buffet and Bianca and Mick Jagger.

The Surf Club
The sparkling sun, soft sand, and cool, clear waters of Miami have attracted elite visitors from around the world for well over a century, laying the foundation for a culture of laidback luxury that continues to define the city today. Of the many Miami institutions, none better embodies this spirit than the Surf Club. For more than eight decades, the glamorous cabanas have played host to celebrities and personalities such as Tony Bennett, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Winston Churchill, and Elizabeth Taylor, while the resort’s legendary parties remain a beloved memory throughout Miami.
On the eve of a redesign by star architect Richard Meier, this volume, featuring a foreword by Pamela Fiori, celebrates the spectacular past, present, and future of what many regard as the jewel of Miami Beach.

NEW MAGS Louis Vuitton Catwalk
Founded as a luxury leather goods house in 1854, Louis Vuitton was for many decades one of the world’s leading trunk and accessories makers. It was after launching its first fashion collections in 1998, however, that the house reached unprecedented global fame, and pioneered high-profile collaborations with artists such as Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami and Stephen Sprouse. This definitive publication opens with a concise history of the house, followed by brief biographical profiles of Marc Jacobs, the first creative director 1998-2014, and Nicolas Ghesquiere, who helms the brand today, before exploring the collections themselves, organized chronologically. Each collection is introduced by a short text unveiling its influences and highlights, and illustrated with carefully curated catwalk images. Showcasing hundreds of spectacular clothes, details, accessories, beauty looks and set designs – and, of course, the top fashion models who wore them on the runway, from Naomi Campbell and Gisele to Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne. A rich reference section, including an extensive index, concludes the book.

How to Eat Your Christmas Tree
DESCRIPTION
Evergreen trees are pillars of the winter – through extreme temperatures across the most bitter terrains, they stand tall and thriving, resilient in the face adversity. However, as the festive season draws to a close, these comforting conifers can often be found lining the streets, cast off and disused with wilted branches dotted across dustbins.
How to Eat Your Christmas Tree is a cookbook which explores the unsung edible heroes of our forests – the humble Christmas trees and their evergreen friends. Featuring recipes for ferments and preserves, feasts, sweet treats and drinks, you will learn how to extend the life of your beloved Christmas tree and turn them into delectable delights to enjoy throughout the year. From simple ideas such as infusing pine needles to make a delicious and warming Pine Tea to more lavish spreads such as a decadent Fur-Cured Salmon, How to Eat Your Christmas Tree is a refreshing and innovative cookbook that encourages you to think about food waste and to be more resourceful in an age of deforestation and climate crisis.

Helmut Newton. Polaroids
Instant Newton A collection of Helmut Newton’s test Polaroids.
Polaroids occupy a special place in the hearts of many photo enthusiasts who remember a time when “instant photography” meant a one-of-a-kind print that developed within minutes of clicking the shutter. What was once a crucial tool for photographers to test their shots before shooting on film has now become obsolete in the face of digital photography. Luckily for us, legendary photographer Helmut Newton saved his test Polaroids, allowing a privileged and rare chance to see the tests from a selection of his greatest shoots over a period of decades, including many from the TASCHEN titles SUMO, A Gun for Hire, and Work. Put together by his widow, June Newton, his collection captures the magic of Helmut Newton photo shoots as only Polaroids can.

Marilyn & Me. Lawrence Schiller
On her final film, Marilyn Monroe gave a young photographer his big break, and this is their story
“You’re already famous, now you’re going to make me famous,” photographer Lawrence Schiller said to Marilyn Monroe as they discussed the photos he was about to shoot of her. “Don’t be so cocky,” Marilyn replied, “photographers can be easily replaced.” The year was 1962, and Schiller, 25, was on assignment for Paris Match magazine. He already knew Marilyn—they had met on the set of Let’s Make Love—but nothing could have prepared him for the day she appeared nude in the motion picture Something’s Got to Give.
Marilyn & Me is an intimate story of a legend before her fall and a young photographer on his way up. Schiller’s extraordinary photographs and vibrant storytelling take us back to that time with tact, humor, and compassion. With more than 100 images, including rare outtakes from the set of Marilyn’s last film, the result is a real and unexpected portrait that captures the star in the midst of her final months.

Mona Kuhn: Works
Mona Kuhn: Works is the first retrospective by one of the most respected and widely exhibited contemporary art photographers of today. Throughout a career spanning more than twenty years, Kuhn’s underlying theme involves humanity’s longing for spiritual interconnectivity. She is renowned for developing close relationships with her subjects, resulting in images of remarkable intimacy. Kuhn employs a range of playful visual strategies that reveal glimpses into the psyche as it is expressed through the human form, ultimately reinterpreting the nude in the canon of contemporary art.
This new volume features images from throughout Kuhn’s career, including previously unseen work, and will introduce her distinct aesthetic to a wide, popular audience. Accompanied by insightful texts by Rebecca Morse, Chris Littlewood, Darius Himes and Simon Baker and an interview with Elizabeth Avedon, the reader is provided with insights into Kuhn’s creative process and the ways in which she works with her subjects and settings, and achieves the visual signature of her imagery.
Mona Kuhn: Works is an essential volume for anyone with an interest in the human form in contemporary art.

Valentino Collezione Milano
Identity, diversity, inclusivity: the essential values of Maison Valentino and creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. This book is founded on, as the choral work of three artists: Pierpaolo Piccioli, Liz Johnson Artur and Bernardine Evaristo.Three different visions in a unique moment: the Valentino Collezione Milano fashion show, which took place in Milan at the Fonderia Macchi on September 27, 2020. A time of great changes, a time when COVID dictated its rules, but that did not persuade art. We are storming towards your future and you cannot stop us, writes Bernardine Evaristo. Pierpaolo Piccioli chose Turner Prize-winning photographer Liz Johnson Artur to interpret Valentino Collezione Milano and the show through her lens. He wanted Liz’s eyes to convey his values: no fuss, no frills, just women and men wearing his collection walking toward the light. A passionate intention that brings fashion at the center of the narration. Liz’s photography is enlightened by the words conceived by Evaristo. You no longer see the dress, you see decisive characters wanting to take a radical step forward, to their new beginnings.

Private Sitting - Gianluca Fontana
Celebrities “au naturel”, without makeup and hairstyling, in the photographer’s portraits.
Private Sitting is a project Gianluca Fontana undertook in order to break beyond a limit, to try to cross the line between the person and the persona and to investigate that boundary through the lens of the emotions – the little gaps, moments of uncertainty, introspection or liberating joy.
Each shot is the sum of deliberate sacrifices: no make-up artist or hair stylist, no costumes, a minimum of light, neutral backgrounds and no other person on the set. Gianluca Fontana has been able to create an intimate space and repay the sense of challenge inherent in this project, while his subjects have been able to seize the opportunity to join a gallery of portraits that absorbs and recapitulates the most significant artistic expressions of contemporary photography.
Begun five years ago, the project has involved fifteen women (Alessandra Mastronardi, Ambra Angiolini, Anita Caprioli, Carolina Crescentini, Cristiana Capotondi, Giulia Elettra Gorietti, Isabella Ferrari, Kasia Smutniak, Margareth Madè, Marta Gastini, Matilde Gioli, Miriam Dalmazio, Tea Falco, Valeria Bilello and Vittoria Puccini), who certainly know the “aesthetic tricks” of an increasingly sophisticated form of photography. In this case, however, they have allowed themselves to be photographed with no “special effects”.

Tom Ford
Tom Ford has become one of fashion’s great icons. In the past decade, he transformed Gucci from a moribund accessories label into one of the sexiest fashion brands in the world. His designs have increased sales at Gucci tenfold and have helped build the Gucci brand into the luxury goods conglomerate that it is today. Ford brought a hard-edged style synonymous with 21st century glamour to his clothes, and Hollywood sat up and took note. This book is a complete catalogue of Ford’s design work for both Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent from 1994 to 2004. It chronicles not only Ford’s clothing and accessories designs for both houses, but also explores Ford’s grand vision for the complete design of a brand, including architecture, store design, and advertising. Tom Fordfeatures more than 200 photographs by Richard Avedon, Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Terry Richardson, Craig McDean, Todd Eberle, and numerous other photographers including many previously unpublished images. Published to coincide with his departure from Gucci, this book has been created with Ford’s full cooperation and every page reflects his exceptional taste. It is Ford’s testament to a career of singular moments reinventing the boundaries of style and sensuality in clothing.

Manual - Craig McDean
The worlds of high-fashion models and car racing collide in this high-octane collection of images from one of the fashion world’s most celebrated photographers.
Before he was one of the fashion world’s most revered and sought-after photographers, Craig McDean trained and worked as a car mechanic in his hometown of Middlewich, England. In this new volume (the highly anticipated follow-up to McDean’s lauded first monograph, Amber, Guinevere, and Kate), the photographer celebrates his two main passions: cars and fashion. With McDean’s trademark energy and glamour, the images in this book capture the beauty, mystery, and sex appeal inherent in both the worlds of luxury fashion and luxury automobiles. Featuring some of fashion’s most well-known models juxtaposed against images of flame-covered race cars and chromium steel car parts, Craig McDean: Manual is a stylish exploration of the ways that fashion and car racing collide.

Nude
A lavish coffee table book and must for every lover of contemporary nude. photography Stefan Rappo works closely with star photographer Peter Lindbergh since many years.
“Stefan Rappo is the photographer of emotions. He creates subtle and inconspicuous images without ornament or demanding staging: a return to the natural state and the primacy of emotions.”
—Normal Magazine
Stefan Rappo’s nude photography strikes an intriguing note between intimacy and distance. At first, the viewer feels a certain distance, and in the next moment they are entangled in the picture’s tangible tensions and emotions. A longtime assistant to Peter Lindbergh and a renowned portrait photographer, Rappo has found his own nude pictorial language that focuses on the female form—at times drawing on the studio tradition and at others reveling in the body in motion. Nude, Rappo’s first publication, brings together some of his favorite nude photographs, indispensable for those who love nude photography.

More is More
Pump up the postmodernism! Curious ceramic objects, wildly patterned fabrics, and anthropomorphic lamps: Instantly recognizable and never, ever boring, Memphis is one of the most important design movements of the 20th century. Founded by Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass, the Memphis Group put forward a visionary new approach to design, that rebelled against the rules of functionalism, defining the ’80s with its radical combinations of shapes, materials, and patterns. Serving up kooky design that’s eclectic yet tightly curated, the Memphis look is exuberant, outrageous, and entertaining. Who doesn’t want a bit of that? Spanning the worlds of interiors, furniture, fashion, and graphics, this new design book explores how the rule-breaking Memphis aesthetic continues to shape the modern creative scene. It started with Millennial Pink. Now the sweet shop colors, terrazzo floors, and curved cartoon shapes have been given a black outline and made graphic and cool. In More is More, author and design journalist Claire Bingham curates iconic Memphis designs and interiors alongside contemporary projects steeped in the effervescent Memphis mood. Step inside stunning, postmodernism-loving homes, studios, and hotels, capturing the Memphis spirit with their hello-there hues, vive la difference mindset, and flamboyant creativity-all hopefully, in the teeth of good taste. And along the way, hear from fashion-forward creatives embracing the Memphis look, as well as from Memphis Group founding members Peter Shire and George Sowden who talk about Memphis’s beginnings, its legacy today and how the ’80s vibe has impacted their life and work. For both the leaders and followers of the New Wave, Memphis is more than a style. It’s an attitude. Claire Bingham revisits the period’s free-thinking mind-set and whisks us away on a crazy and colorful journey: in exciting essays, interviews, and stories about home decor, artists and designers from around the world share how Memphis continues to inspire and enrich their work.

Sir Mario Testino
"The way men are seen in photography, in fashion, and the way that men look at pictures of themselves has changed in recent years. It is a subject that has come into focus: The masculine image, a man's personal style, changing attitudes to the male face and body."
- Mario Testino
From Rio to London, Cusco to Seville, Mario Testino is renowned for his free-spirited chronicles of dress and demeanor. In SIR, his largest book to-date, the influential photographer presents over 300 photographs in his search to define the allure of men.
Featuring an essay by Pierre Borhan, an interview with Patrick Kinmonth, and many previously unpublished works from Testino's archive of thousands, this book traces the evolution of male identity over the past three decades. Costume, tradition, gender play, portraiture, photojournalism, and fashion collide as Testino observes masculinity in all its modern manifestations: through the dandy and the gentleman, the macho and the fey, the world-famous face to the unknown passerby.
Every photograph represents a unique point of view, and a new visual connection between photographer and sitter. With Josh Hartnett for VMAN (2005), Testino evokes the fall of Helmut Berger in the abyss of Luchino Visconti's The Damned. Studies of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jude Law and Colin Firth are as candid as they are curious. David Beckham, David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards feature for the courage they have taken in redefining male identity. Through a kaleidoscope of guises, these portraits define a period in which men's changing role, style and appearance has never escaped Testino's eye and impeccable intuition.

The Details: Iconic Men's Accessories
The Details identifies the authentic classics amongst men’s accessories and explains how each item has developed. The book tells the stories of their design; the brand, company, or iconic figure that started it all; and how each item has shaped the way men dress today. The leather biker boot, as we know it today, takes its stylistic cues from the toughened boots worn by the loggers and railway engineers of the American industrial revolution. The origins of the ubiquitous baseball cap can be traced back to the New York Knick’s team caps of 1849 ? which were made of straw. From classic diving watches to the simple pocket square, The Details examines the most important of men’s accessories and offers a complete guide to choosing your own examples.

Helmut Newton - SUMO
DESCRIPTION
The Helmut Newton SUMO was a titanic book in every respect: it broke records for weight, dimensions, and resale price. At 35.4 kilos, TASCHEN and Helmut Newton created a landmark book that stood head and shoulders above anything previously attempted, both in terms of conceptual extravagance and technical specifications.
Published in an edition of 10,000 signed and numbered copies, the SUMO sold out soon after publication and quickly multiplied its value. Copies now feature in numerous important collections around the world, including New York’s Museum of Modern Art,while legendary SUMO copy number one, autographed by over 100 of the book’s featured celebrities, broke the record for the most expensive book published in the 20th century, selling at auction in Berlin on April 6, 2000, for 620,000 German marks – approximately €317,000.
A decade on from its first appearance, the XL SUMO brings this unprecedented publishing venture to an even wider audience with a lighter but no less glamorous format. Carefully revised by June Newton, and with its own presentation bookstand, the book remains a spectacular tribute to the 20th century’s most influential, intriguing, and controversial photographer, with hundreds of exquisite images, from his stunning fashion shoots to his shimmering nudes, provocative mise-en-scènes, and celebrity portraits.

Terry O'Neill Rare And Unseen
Terry O’Neill is one of the greatest living photographers today, with work displayed and exhibited at first-class museums and fine-art galleries worldwide. His iconic images of Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Brigitte Bardot, Faye Dunaway, and David Bowie – to name but a few – are instantly recognisable across the globe. Now, for the first time, O’Neill selects a range of images from his extensive archive of “vintage prints”, which will surprise and delight collectors and photography lovers alike.
Long before the age of digital, photographers would send physical prints to the papers and magazines. These prints were passed around, handled by many, stamped on the back, and often times captioned. After use, the prints were either filed away, thrown out or – for the lucky few – sent back to the photographer or their photo agencies.
At the dawn of the 1960s, when O’Neill’s career began, physical prints were the norm. Terry kept as many as he could that were sent back to him. “I just kept everything,” he says. “I don’t know why. Back then, there wasn’t really a reason to keep them. Photos were used straight away and then I just moved on to the next assignment. No one was thinking these would be worth anything down the line, let alone fifty years later.”
This book collects hundreds of these rare images, a true must for Terry’s fans and photography collectors.
